Inferno Threat in the Blue Mountains

The two fires burning in the Blue Mountains have now merged and escaped containment lines. Weather conditions expected could cause a possible “inferno due to soaring temperatures and strong winds” (Dora Tsavdaridis). The Blue Mountains National Park is now closed due to conditions expected today.

Rural Fire Service commissioner Phil Koperberg yesterday said the towns of Wentworth Falls, Leura, Katoomba and Woodford could all be at risk… Mr Koperberg said there was an increasing concern “flames could change direction and threaten residential properties in the south-east of the fire front”.

Yikes! Possible inferno?! The now huge fire front possibly changing direction and coming this way?! Okay, now I really am nervous and not at all looking forward to this afternoon when conditions are forecast to be at their worst.
